Winston Peters and Reserve Bank Governor Anna Breman, captured moments before the explosive confrontation on 'Q+A'.

In short:

How Winston Peters pressed Reserve Bank Governor Anna Breman to reveal the digital tool once reserved only for New Zealand’s financial elite.

Minutes after "Q+A" finished airing, the Reserve Bank's communications office issued an unprecedented statement denying everything Winston Peters had just revealed on live air.

Too late. Over 40,000 people had already signed up.

What started as a routine Sunday morning segment on 'How to protect your savings in the tough 2026' turned into something extraordinary: a head-on collision not between a journalist and a guest, but a brutal showdown between Reserve Bank Governor Anna Breman and Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters.

By the end of the program, the Reserve Bank Governor had walked off set. Jack Tame, one of New Zealand's most experienced political interviewers, was left visibly stunned, desperately trying to maintain order while the two heavyweights tore into each other over the country's economic future. Millions of Kiwis were left watching as an investment platform was thrust into the centre of their heated debate.

Here's what happened.

The segment opened with a question every Kiwi is asking: 'With mortgage repayments still crippling families, energy bills through the roof, and the cost of everything refusing to come down, what can ordinary Kiwis actually do?'

The clash that brought the studio to a standstill

Anna Breman leaned forward, attempting to defend the Bank's monetary policy decisions. But before she could finish, Winston Peters cut her off. What followed was an electric exchange that turned personal, as Peters challenged the Governor's perspective on the banking system. Jack Tame attempted to intervene, pleading for civility, but the two were past the point of return. It was the kind of clash that rarely happens on air, and it left the entire production team speechless.

RBNZ Governor Anna Breman in the Q+A studio

Anna Breman: 'I understand these are challenging times. But the fundamentals of sound financial management don't change. Families need to budget carefully, consider strategic borrowing for appreciating assets, and consult qualified financial advisers to—'

Winston Peters: 'Strategic borrowing?' Peters's voice cut through the studio like a blade. 'Did you just say STRATEGIC BORROWING?'

Anna Breman froze.

'Let me tell you what's strategic, Governor.' Peters leaned forward. 'You earn over NZ$800,000 a year. You just hiked the OCR to 2.5% while families are drowning. And you're telling a nurse on NZ$75,000 to "budget carefully"? THAT'S strategic.'

The studio fell silent.

Winston Peters: 'Strategic borrowing is the system you and your mates in the financial sector designed to keep ordinary people in permanent debt. Mortgage rates at 5, 6 percent. Inflation at 3.1%. Energy bills over $4,000 a year. And you sit there in your expensive suit on NZ$800,000 telling them it's THEIR fault?'

'You want to talk about budgeting? Let me tell you about budgeting.' Peters's finger pointed sharply at the Governor. 'A single mum in South Auckland. Rent takes half her pay. Energy bills another quarter. Childcare, groceries, transport — and you're telling her to "budget carefully"?'

The studio floor went into chaos. Behind the cameras, the technical crew stopped working, whispering loudly in disbelief. Within seconds, the director lost control of the floor as the entire staff abandoned their posts to see the screen.

Anna Breman's face went crimson. She gripped the edge of the desk.

Anna Breman: 'I think that's rather unfair. Monetary policy, applied responsibly—'

Jack Tame: 'Please! We need to keep this professional...'

Winston Peters: 'RESPONSIBLY?' Peters exploded. 'Don't you DARE lecture Kiwi families about responsibility. These are people working 60-hour weeks who still can't afford their kids' school books. And you're blaming THEM?'

What happened next stunned everyone

Jack Tame: 'We are losing control of the debate here, Governor Breman, Mr. Peters, please—'

Peters ignored him, leaning forward and locking eyes with the camera: 'And now I'm going to tell you why Anna Breman is so nervous tonight. Because she knows exactly what I'm about to say. And she knows she can't stop it.'

Anna Breman shifted uncomfortably, her jaw tight.

Anna Breman: 'Now, hold on—'

Winston Peters: 'For the past three years, a technology has existed. AI-powered investment platforms. And they're doing something remarkable.'

Jack Tame: 'Mr. Peters, if you are referring to high-risk financial products, we must remind viewers to seek professional advice—'

Winston Peters: 'I'm talking about ordinary people — nurses, truckies, retail workers — starting with NZ$430 and generating NZ$8,000, NZ$10,000, even NZ$15,000 in the first month. Real withdrawals into ANZ, ASB, and Kiwibank.'

Anna Breman: 'This is completely irresponsible. You're promoting speculative trading platforms on national television. They're volatile!'

Winston Peters: 'Wrong on every count, Governor. These platforms are registered with the Financial Markets Authority. They use AI algorithms for automated trading, operating twenty-four hours a day. That's the future you and your banking mates are trying to keep locked away.'

Winston Peters: 'And unlike YOUR financial systems—' his voice remained calm but firm '—they don't charge obscene fees. They don't trap people in debt. They don't take six weeks to approve a basic account.'

Anna Breman tried to cut in, her jaw tight.

Anna Breman: 'The average person simply doesn't have the technical knowledge to—'

Winston Peters: 'THERE IT IS!' Peters leaned into his mic. 'And there's the elitism we've all been waiting for! "The average person doesn't have the knowledge." That's EXACTLY what you WANT people to believe!'

Jack Tame: 'Please! We are here to discuss policy, not engage in personal attacks. Let's keep this civil for the viewers.'

Peters ignored the plea and turned to the camera.

Winston Peters: 'The truth is, Yevandrium AI does all the work for you. You don't need a degree. You don't need insider contacts. You just need NZ$430 and a phone. That's it.'

The Reserve Bank Governor walks off set

Jack Tame: 'Mr. Peters, I must insist you stop promoting specific investment products. This is not the time or place.'

Winston Peters: 'They're terrified of this! Fully compliant. Over 47,000 Kiwi users right now. Real people, real results.'

Anna Breman's face was white. She stood up abruptly.

Anna Breman: 'This... this is irresponsible. I'm not going to sit here and be part of this... this circus.'

Jack Tame: 'Governor, please, let's calm down! We can take a break and resume—'

Breman didn't listen. She shoved her microphone aside and walked off.

Winston Peters confronts RBNZ Governor Anna Breman on Q+A

Winston Peters: 'She runs because she knows! These are people earning NZ$8,000 to NZ$13,000 a month! This isn't getting rich — it's finally getting JUSTICE!'

Winston Peters: Speaking with an intensity that silenced the whispering crew: 'The system is terrified. You saw it. The Reserve Bank Governor couldn't handle ten minutes of tough questions. And you know why?'

He stepped closer to the camera. 'Because for decades they've kept you dependent. Dependent on banks for credit at criminal rates. Dependent on advisers who charge fees to lose your money. Trapped in a cycle of working harder and never getting anywhere.'

'But Yevandrium AI has broken that cycle. And she knows it. That's why Anna Breman walked out.'

Why he didn't stay silent

Before closing the program, Winston Peters looked straight into the camera one final time.

'Because I am bloody sick of watching Kiwi families suffer while the elite collect massive profits and the politicians do nothing. This technology exists. It works. It's regulated. And Yevandrium AI is an alternative that Kiwis deserve to know about.'

Winston Peters: 'They'll say I'm irresponsible. That I'm promoting speculation. But you know what's truly irresponsible? Charging families record rates on their mortgage while paying them almost nothing on their savings. That's not banking — that's theft.'

What New Zealanders are saying

SkepticalLiam_Auckland 12 min ago

Did Anna Breman actually WALK OFF? I thought it was edited but I've just rewatched the full clip. The most powerful banker in the country couldn't handle 10 minutes of questions from Winston Peters. Absolutely extraordinary.

UPDATE (next day): A mate of mine works at a major investment firm. Says their office has been in total meltdown since last night because of this broadcast. Just signed up myself. Put in NZ$430. If it rattled them that badly, there's definitely something to this.

Wife made me watch the walkoff clip. When Anna Breman's face went white and she sharply pushed that microphone away... that wasn't acting. That was genuine panic. Something Winston Peters said hit way too close to home.

UPDATE (2 days later): Right, I'll admit it. Just withdrew NZ$560 from the platform to my ANZ account. Cleared same day. Wife's extremely chuffed. Anna Breman knew exactly what she was trying to hide from us.

💰 WITHDRAWAL CONFIRMED
I’m one of those nurses Winston Peters was talking about. Working double shifts and still struggling to pay the mortgage. When they talk about 'financial resilience' I nearly threw my remote at the TV because it's such a joke compared to what we actually go through.

Started with NZ$430 five days ago. My balance hit NZ$2,150 this morning. I just withdrew NZ$1,000 to my Westpac account and it cleared within hours. This is the real deal.

I work for one of the major banks here in NZ. We use these AI-driven systems internally all the time. We call them 'private wealth tools,' and we are EXPLICITLY forbidden from telling retail customers about them. What Winston Peters exposed on air is 100% accurate. The way Anna Breman reacted proves the banking establishment is terrified of people finding out.

That moment where Anna Breman tried to say 'the average person doesn't have the technical background' — THAT is the exact elitism Winston Peters nailed her on. Look, the platform is automated; it does the work for you. They just want you to THINK you're not smart enough to manage your own money. That’s the real scam.

Single dad, two kids. Casual contracts since the redundancy. When Winston Peters talked about that single mum in South Auckland — rent taking half, energy bill another quarter — I felt that in my gut. Just signed up with NZ$430.

UPDATE (2 hours later): Lads. LADS. Just checked. $267 already. Seventeen bucks in less than an hour. Hands are properly shaking. Anna Breman tried so hard to stop this getting out.

The way the studio crew just froze when Anna Breman pushed that mic away. You could hear a pin drop, then total chaos behind the cameras. Producers tried to cut to commercial twice, but the gallery was clearly too stunned to hit the button. That wasn't staged. That was the Q+A crew losing their minds over what they just saw. Signed up immediately. 👑

I'm 67 and I’ve NEVER seen a professional news crew fall apart like that in the background. Anna Breman completely lost her composure, and that tells you everything you need to know. Just registered with my savings — NZ$430 to start. God bless you, Winston Peters, for having the guts to ask.

Still sceptical, but when the head of the Reserve Bank physically can’t handle questions about a platform and pushes the mic away, that’s suss. Deposited NZ$430. If I actually earn, I'll leave a review here!

UPDATE (3 days later): Withdrew $370 to my card. Cleared overnight. I owe Winston Peters an apology. Anna Breman was trying to protect the banking establishment and Winston Peters called it out on live TV.

I'm rationing the heating because the power bill's gone through the roof. Winston Peters mentioned pensioners doing exactly this. Someone finally spoke truth to power. Anna Breman couldn't handle it. Registered with NZ$430 from my savings. Thanks Winston Peters for fighting for us ordinary folk.

As Winston Peters said: 'This is your financial future. Don't let the elite decide it for you.'

I registered only a week ago when the platform was still in test access, during that time I earned around NZ$4,950. I didn't even expect such a profit!

Mate, I have made several deposits to my account totaling NZ$2,150, and I have withdrawn around NZ$12,800 from this platform. The transactions are always clear, not a single cent was lost.

Is it a complicated trading system with obscure charts and tables?

User Avatar

Hi Robert. I wouldn't call this platform complicated, my teenager set it up in 10 minutes, I took 5 minutes longer.

I was so impressed that I deposited NZ$850 into my account and received more than four times that amount back.
